Each session is unique. Below are descriptions of the modalities in which I've been trained. I specialize in Myofascial Release, but based on conversation as you arrive and intuition during your session, I may use a combination of any of these techniques to support your healing journey.
Myofascial Release under the John Barnes approach is a gentle yet profoundly effective form of whole-person attention. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds every cell in your body--all muscles, organs, vessels, and bones--like a giant, continuous web. After applying sustained pressure, your fascia will soften and lengthen like taffy. This opens up space and brings more fluidity into the tissues of your body, releasing restrictions and pain, and increasing motion and the flow of information. This reminder of freedom can resonate beyond the physical parts of your being. Spending time being fully present with what-is is key in this work. Rather than forcing, we support and encourage, always going at the pace built into the wisdom of your body. This allows for long-standing patterns--physical, emotional, energetic--to shift in lasting and meaningful ways.
MFR is done directly on the skin. While we may use a sheet and blanket for warmth, there may be times when you need to be in a position for which draping is less feasible. Please bring clothing that allows for hands-on contact with your body. All clients typically wear athletic or other loose shorts (no spandex if possible, please). Women will also wear a bra, sports bra, tank top, or similar. Please avoid lotion and oils anywhere on the skin on the day of your session. You are welcome to bring them along to apply after your session.
My massage style blends the long, flowing movements of Swedish massage with more anatomically precise methods (e.g., trigger point therapy). I aim to engage the tissues exactly as they are, without forcing through. While this may not feel as deep as some other practitioners' work, it's because I wait for the tissues to soften and allow me in rather than causing you undue pain. This promotes both relaxation and improved function.
Energy work is a relaxing, nurturing way to strengthen the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms. Gentle touch as well as hands-off work in the energy field around your body assists in balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I have been trained in several energy work modalities, including Reiki, Healing Touch, and Quantum Touch, and will use intuition and input from you to determine which technique to use at any given moment. Clients remain clothed, and energy work can easily be blended with other modalities.
According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. We will methodically explore your feet and discover the stories they have to tell. This work stands on its own or can be incorporated with other modalities.
Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in your home, workplace, or event site. You receive your massage while sitting in a specialized ergonomic chair which I bring to your location. Chair massage is done over the clothing, and sessions are usually shorter than traditional massage, making it more convenient to fit into your day (typically 10-20 minutes). If you have a group or event that would appreciate the health benefits of massage, this is the perfect way to meet that need.
I block 2 hours per session, which includes the hands-on time plus check-ins at the beginning and end. Just let me know if you need to wrap up by an earlier time. Some sessions naturally wrap up a bit early. I do my best to listen to what your body seems ready for that day. If possible, allow extra space in your day to continue integrating the work we've done.
Below is my pricing framework, which includes all taxes.
